Hearing Assessment

audiologist examining someone's ear

Whether you are just starting out on your hearing loss journey or an established hearing aid user, we can provide a full hearing assessment and information on the latest hearing solutions on the market. We will ensure we understand how you feel about your hearing and communication challenges and what it is that you need and want. We will then complete the necessary hearing tests to fully assess your hearing. The results will be explained to you in language you understand, to enable you to make an informed decision about any next steps.

Our initial assessment can take up to 2 hours to complete. This is because it’s important to us that you clearly understand the results of your tests and are fully informed about the treatment options so you can make the right decisions for you.

Understanding your hearing

We will discuss your hearing difficulties and symptoms with you in detail, as well as how these are impacting on your daily life and on those around you. It’s important that you have an opportunity to tell us exactly how you feel about your hearing, as no-one else can understand it like you can. However, we also believe in Family-Centered Care – an approach to healthcare that recognises the vital role that families play in audiological treatment and rehabilitation. It can be helpful to bring a family member or friend with you for support as this can help build a more detailed picture of your hearing needs.

We will also spend some time asking you about your hearing history, general health and any relevant medical conditions. This will help us understand any possible causes for your hearing loss which may help us decide on the next steps.

Testing your hearing

Based on what we have found out about your hearing, we will select and perform the necessary and appropriate tests to investigate and address your individual concerns. This will include testing the physical health of your ears as well as the sounds you are able to hear and understand.

Our hearing tests follow British Society of Audiology guidelines and fully assess your hearing, from routine through to more complex losses. Testing is carried out in our purpose-built sound-proof facilities ensuring the most accurate results.

Managing your hearing

A detailed evaluation of all our findings brings all the information together. We will explain all the results to you in way you can easily understand. We will discuss with you all the options available to you for your hearing condition and, together, we will create a personalised management plan to suit your lifestyle and hopes for improvement.

We can communicate or work with other healthcare and medical professionals and, with your permission, make written referrals for further investigation and treatments if necessary and appropriate.

We will also provide you with a written report of all our findings and recommendations for your records that you can share with those that may be supporting you.

Having a full hearing assessment can directly result in improved communication in terms of good communication advice, even if you took no further action.
